Event Overview
For the fourth consecutive year, Peanut Productions partnered with the Australian Publishers Association to deliver the Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA), one of the country’s most respected publishing industry events. In 2026, the awards were hosted at Linseed House within The Grounds of Alexandria, marking the event’s first year in Sydney.
Bringing together over 375 authors, publishers, booksellers and industry leaders, the evening featured a three-course gala dinner, networking opportunities and the presentation of 25 awards, including the highly regarded Book of the Year and Publisher of the Year categories.
Our Approach
As a long-term delivery partner, our role was to create an experience that reflected the prestige of the awards while supporting the broader objectives of the Australian Publishers Association. Working closely with the client, we managed the end-to-end planning and delivery of the event, ensuring every detail contributed to a seamless and professional experience for attendees, sponsors and stakeholders alike.
Experience Design
The awards were designed to feel both sophisticated and welcoming, celebrating the achievements of the publishing industry while creating opportunities for meaningful connection. From the moment guests arrived, every touchpoint was carefully considered to support a seamless attendee journey, from registration and seating allocations through to dining, networking and award presentations.
A refined visual identity flowed throughout the event, with the signature purple and blue palette incorporated across styling, florals, printed collateral and sponsor branding to create a cohesive and elevated guest experience.
Event Execution
Peanut Productions managed all key delivery elements including ticketing, registration, production, entertainment, styling and onsite event management. A custom ABIA stage installation provided a striking focal point for the awards presentations, while carefully designed lighting enhanced the atmosphere throughout the venue.
Live entertainment was integrated throughout the evening, with a jazz trio and balcony-positioned saxophonist creating moments of energy and connection between award presentations. One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when beloved Australian author Mem Fox received the Pixie O’Harris Award, earning a standing ovation from industry peers in recognition of her contribution to Australian publishing.
Event Outcomes
The Sydney edition was exceptionally well received, with strong attendance and stakeholder feedback reinforcing the continued growth of the awards program. As the first Sydney-based event in the awards’ history, the success of the evening demonstrated strong industry demand and provided a platform for the ongoing evolution of one of Australia’s most important publishing industry celebrations.
