Still Finding Firsts – Michael Mastrodimos Dives Into ISE 2026

At a glance:

  • Michael Mastrodimos returned from ISE 2026 in Barcelona with a clear takeaway: the future of event technology trends in 2026 is about the invisible tech that powers human connection and impactful messaging.
  • By prioritising high-impact event design and high-tech integrations, Peanut Productions is moving beyond traditional specs to create immersive, responsive environments where the technology never distracts from the experience.

Recently, I traded late summer in Melbourne for the vibrant energy of Barcelona to attend Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2026 – the world’s leading event for audiovisual and systems integration that pushes beyond the expected to redefine the possible. The show was totally inspiring and utterly overwhelming visually – to give you a sense of the scale, it spanned 101,000 sqm, featured over 1,700 exhibitors and catered to over 92,000 attendees. Here’s just some of what I saw over the four day event:

What stood out for me wasn’t just the capabilities of the hardware, but the way in which companies created content that really brought the tech to life. They were able to showcase their installations very creatively so that the content was just as inspirational as the new AV tech.

It wasn’t just about the bells and whistles: it was how the hardware and the content came together to send a message. This is really important to me, and something I believe to be paramount in event design, because messaging is the real key to any event. The tech behind the hardware just provides us with a canvas where we can bring messages to life.

Now that I’ve had some time to reflect more on the experience, here are my personal highlights and some thoughts on how we can bring these innovations to Peanut Production’s events.

From Specifications to Sensations

I feel that hardware only matters if it triggers an emotional response. At ISE, this was evident in the shift toward more integrated technologies, displayed in the most innovative and creative ways. They seamlessly merged the tech into the landscape or environment, allowing the message to take center stage. Showcased creatively were very new materials – many not yet available in Australia – that make the equipment recede and help to really bring the content to the fore. The end result is that you’re able to focus more fully on the content than the structures the content sits on.

  • Transparent & Flexible Screens: A major highlight for me was witnessing the move toward lightweight and flexible screens, some of which were almost curtain-like that allow an uncluttering of physical space, blending digital branding into the environment without blocking the view or the flow of an event.
  • Responsive Storytelling: More flexibility to create immersive activations that feel light and integrated rather than heavy and intrusive.
  • Redefining the Corporate Event: Combining broadcast-quality content with motion-capture and live systems can push beyond what people expect from a traditional conference or gala.

The AI Integration Era is Already Here

AI is no longer a futuristic buzzword; it’s a co-pilot for real-time production workflows. In business, we’re all aware we need to become better equipped at staying at the forefront of AI and tech. It was inspiring to see highly creative and innovative people at the top of their game sharing how they’ve integrated AI into their workflow and how AI tools can help further amplify our creative voice in ways we’ve never been able to do before.

  • Intelligent Environments: AI can be used to calibrate environments – from lighting that adjusts for attendee comfort to responsive digital avatars that interact naturally with guests. Amazing stuff.
  • Scaling Creativity: AI is enabling greater speed in content delivery, which can help creative teams spend more time on high-level storytelling and less on overcoming technical friction.

Reliability is Still the Bedrock of Innovation

I’m a big believer in “Execution is everything” – that’s why one of our core values is to obsess over the details! The scale of ISE 2026 reinforced that the most groundbreaking tech is useless without a team that can make it work under pressure.

Exceptional execution requires detailed, careful, and meticulous planning and testing. Testing for us is super important because we’re trying to push boundaries.

Creating More Immersive Experiences

Traditionally, videos have been seen as something linear. A story was told by stitching or transitioning multiple videos from one to the next. With the use of media servers, we’re now able to create content that’s more seamlessly layered – we can transition seamlessly, fade up or fade down – all within a single environment.

This new level of integration – coupling layered video content with the impressive enhancements to the AV canvas the content is shown on – opens new opportunities for creative execution – and that excites me. The reason it excites me is that we never want to do the same thing twice. We’re always asking: How can we grow and develop from what we’ve done previously?

Bringing Barcelona to You

For me, as someone who works in our little corner of the world, it was thrilling to be in an environment where I was seeing companies showcase ideas that we all see come alive on some of the world’s biggest stages. To be a part of that is incredibly exciting and invigorating.

The energy I brought back from Barcelona is already finding its way into our upcoming projects. Whether you are planning a national conference or a high-impact activation, we are ready to help you push beyond the expected. Contact the Peanut Productions team to innovate your next event.
